Weekend Getaways by Nik

Here is a list of some of the things that new-comers to Canada may enjoy doing if they ever feel a bit bored by the city:
1. Go to the Cultus Lake Waterpark; a 90 minute drive from Vancouver with some really fun waterslides!!!
2. Check out Buntzen Lake on a hot day if you don't feel like going to the regular city beaches.
3. Take the ferry to Bowen Island--it's only 20 minutes from Horseshoe Bay and is a great way to spend a lazy Sunday!
Take the time to get to know Vancouver and her surrounding areas--you'll appreciate your experience in Canada much more!

Yes, I can

At any given moment we have two voices in our head: one which tells us we can’t, and another which tells us we can.

Which will prove true?

The one we give the most attention to. The one we act on. The one we make a stand for.

New Baby!

Hi everyone! Well the headline says it all. The baby is due on Jan 15 2010. My wife finds the first couple of months very difficult, although it gets better. Of course we aren't ready, but hey, who is? Edward still visits the school every Friday. He's starting to talk and he's becoming less shy. Maxwell my oldest is graduating from Carson Graham High School this month. He's going to look for work in a couple of weeks. I'm still working on the new school and hope to start this fall.
Take care and talk to you soon.

Summer Days

The summer equinox is just around the corner which means that the next 6 weeks will have the longest amount of sunlight of the entire year. Last night it was still light out at 10:00 p.m.!!! Make sure that you get out there and that you enjoy the weather because we all know what the winters in Vancouver are like... One beach that I would recommend to all students is Spanish Banks, and you can get there by taking the number 4, or 84 bus. It has a great view of the city. HAVE FUN!!

How to Open a Used Furniture Store

As many residents of Vancouver are aware, used furniture shops are in abundance due to the fact that most people in this city are too lazy to stand while watching T.V or run, while reading a book. So, I have a few tips on how to create a successful used furniture store:

-Clutter, clutter, and more clutter: do not have any type of organization while presenting your furniture. If you have a mattress, place it beside a single office chair. If you have a used T.V, place it underneath a grouping of stained pillows.

-Cook in the store: Customers love walking into a store and smelling the leftover spaghetti you made last night. Make sure to have a meal (made with that potent ground beef from the Superstore) rotating in the microwave at all times.

-Do not acknowledge the customer: When the customer comes in, sit in a dark corner of the store. If the customer approaches, begin talking on yourself, using three different languages: English, Tagalog, and Farsi.

-Do not give definite answers: If a customer wants to know the price of something, always say "around a couple hundred." Customers do not want to know the exact price of something before they bring it up to the til.

-Use Discovery Card and Diner's Club as the only credit cards you accept.

-Have nothing worth buying: Tables with three legs, chairs with no seat, and couches covered with more bodily fluid than the floor of an emergency room. Customers don't want good stuff; they want to be back in the store as soon as possible trying to replace what they just bought.
